Hello & Welcome to The Takeover Strategy, Welcome, Welcome, Welcome!

The truth about copywriting may set you free, or it could leave you in the dark about what to do!

It is so confusing on the internet when you are trying to find out information on what copywriting is, and how to write the perfect copy. What are all the different structures of copy? How can you learn to copy? Can you learn how copy works and write good copy? The answer to all of these is a simple YES of course you can. I never had any idea in the beginning, not a bean, but I learned, I read and I learned more and more, before you know it you are an expert in it, that’s the beauty of learning, doesn’t matter who you are, how intelligent you are, you can learn we all can learn, and learning cleanses the soul, because it’s a fact we are here for learning, so why wouldn’t it be inspiring and healing. It doesn’t matter if you are not very good at writing, because I wasn’t very good at writing once upon a time, but I wrote in a journal for over two years and I became very good, some may say I am still not very good, but I don’t care, I love to help people, and I want thousands if not millions of people to be inspired. Have you noticed in that paragraph above one thing I have written, well two similar things and it’s something to take note of, I have been patient with myself in taking my time to learn and I kept going, and if I can do it you can too. I am not a special human being, I am made of the same stuff as you.

Copywriting is an important spoke in the wheel of digital marketing, although AI has come into play now, AI still can’t write effective copy in my eyes. AI will improve and more and more people will use it, but there will be a flip side to that. Eventually, there will be so much AI Copy out there, businesses will look for copywriters that can write, because it will be unique, so if you become a great writer I believe in the future, there will be a market for let’s call it “Pure Copywriting”.  Today we’re going to touch on some key points in copywriting, were run through some techniques you can incorporate, some you may have heard of before, some you may not have heard of, but hearing something for 2, 3, 4, 5 times is good, it instills it in your mind. No matter what you read, you should always read it at least ten times, that goes for any documentation, including books, papers, and so on, if you read it once you will take in information and you will miss key information and key points I can promise you.

I am not going to go into huge detail about what copywriting is, because I am sure you already know, as you are reading this BLOG, so you must have some interest in the topic. However, I will go into a summary of what copywriting is. Copywriting is a form of compelling, Persuasive, intriguing content that will smack the reader in the face and make them stop and think, make them want more, and make them follow you or purchase from you if you are selling anything. From a business point of view, a copywriter is someone who can drum up an audience for that business, engage them, help grow an individual, or grow that business as a whole. OK, so plug over 🙂 I do love to plug our strategies, but they are going to so amazing and change many peoples life’s, it’s something I am very passionate about. There are some important stages to being a copywriter, it’s not all about writing, some key elements consist of Research/Analytics, Problem Solving, Huge learning capacity, understanding what’s trending, and versatility. We will go through each one so you have a better understanding of what they mean and how you can learn to focus your mind in this way, through practicing the arts of being a copywriter.

  1. One of the first things you will do as a copywriter, in fact, the very first thing you do, is research! It’s important to understand the business you are working with, you need to understand their industry, you need to understand the big players in that industry, you need to understand what the big players are doing that the business who has employed you doesn’t do! What is happening in the business at the moment? I even look at their sales over the last five years and their profits, products they sell, what are they? What’s trending in their products or service? Keywords being used and not being used! Who wants them? Who needs them? What pains would they have to need this product or service? What is blocking them from achieving what they want to achieve? Current copy style, how is it set out?  So there are ten there and that’s just touching the surface, but it’s to give you an outlay of what you would look for, from there you would start to put together a plan of action.
  2. Problem-solving is another key thing in being a copywriter, you need to see things people can’t see. A lot like research, find a solution to their problems, what are their pains? How can you take away their pains, by giving them back value in return? What are the roadblocks? What are the issues in the way for them to have a larger audience? For example, you might see their website isn’t user-friendly, maybe that isn’t engaging enough for the buyer, or they’re not posting as regularly as they need to be, or their funnels are old and need to be re-written, and there are so many things to look at. I have explained this in the past a good way to understand what the customer’s pains are is that you have to see it from their point of view, you have to be the managing director sitting there, wondering why it’s not working, and you have to see what he see’s, once you do that you will start to break down their pains very quickly!
  3. Being an avid learner is an important concept in being a copywriter, not many touches on this when explaining copywriting, the digital world changes very fast, so you need to make sure you are ahead of the game. TIP Create a separate email address and add yourself to lots of different email marketing platforms where you will get email updates on their products and services, you can add them in any industry at the start, but as you get to know what industries you are more focused in, then unsubscribe to the old ones and add new ones. Now, although you can’t copy others’ work, you can get ideas and you can see how others are doing it in the industry your customer might be in, you can then research that company and see what they are doing so well.
  4. Understanding your customer’s market is vital and as you gain more experience you will deal in the same industries over and over again, so you will start to see the solutions a lot quicker, you will know what works and what doesn’t work. Understanding the customer’s marketplace is important, a. because you need to seem to know what you are talking about, and b. it will make your job a lot quicker and more fluid. TIP when you start to become established, I would write a list of your top ten industries you have worked with, then join as many forums, blogs, and research documents in these industries, this way you will be keeping up with what is happening in each of these industries and when a job comes up in these niches, you will already be fully updated, I would put this in place after twelve months.
  5. Versatility, you need to be versatile in copywriting, in fact, in every form of business or business environment you need versatility! This is part of the two VV’s Adding Value and being Versatile, these two things are massive! You need to be able to adapt yourself to different scenarios, different audiences, different customers, different personalities with different egos! You need to be a man/woman manager, you have to be in control, take control, and although I don’t suggest you take this into any of your loving relationships as controlling in a relationship isn’t healthy, it should always be a level playing field! But in business control is a powerful thing, and this isn’t meant in a manipulation way, it’s in the way of taking control of your client or customer, you lead them, you guide them and you take the stress off of them, but all in a professional manner.

So there you go, I hope that helps someone

Remember, keep the fire burning, ALWAYS!

All the best,

John Thompson
